The elephant in the room
Some people are ‘pull your hair out’ annoying!
How often do you want to shout ‘‘WHY DON’T YOU GET IT!!! but stop yourself?
sigh….
How frustrating we really find each other is the elephant in the room of many teams I meet.
But they keep quiet in the name of ‘team work’ or ‘professionalism’.
TRY THIS...
Let me tell you The Parable of the Blind Men and the Elephant
There was once a group of blind men who were curious about an animal called an elephant.
Being blind, none of them had ever seen one, so they set out to touch an elephant and learn about it that way.
The first man touched the trunk of the elephant and said, "This being is like a thick snake".
The second man reached for an ear and declared an elephant was like a fan.
The third man who stood by the elephant’s leg compared it to a tree.
The man who touched the side of the elephant found it more like a wall.
The man holding the tail described the elephant as being like a rope.
The last felt a tusk and confirmed that the elephant was clearly like a spear, hard and smooth.
When it comes to perspective, 2 people can disagree and both be right.
💡Top Tip! - When someone next frustrates you…
Name the elephant!
Move your feet (i.e. get more curious about their angle on it)
Put your pieces together, then work with that
SOMETHING TO PONDER...
Where are the elephants in your relationships?
Are you all hind leg and no trunk in your focus?
Who has your missing ear on this elephant?
SOMETHING FOR LATER...
We like to be right about things… it’s called confirmation bias and there are more biases were that one came from.
