Does your high energy wear others out?
Things are never competely what they seem.
It’s what makes working on relationships so deeply rewarding… and relentless!!!
It reminds me of a question I often get asked by direct, fast paced and target driven leaders. (🔴)
“Do you think my energy is going to wear out the quieter, harmony seeking, supportive (🟢) team members?”
They assume I’ll say yes… because they see themselves as the ‘driving force’, the ones with the focus and level of activity that leads to success.
They are concerned that others are ‘struggling to keep up’.
But I don’t say “Yes”
I say…
“Sometimes, yes, that energy can wear out those who will bend over backwards to do right by the team.”
But, sometimes things turn 180 degrees.
They wear you out!
They dig their loyal, caring heels in and quietly and consistenly resist you to protect their own… until you run yourself into the ground trying to shift them.
Because direct, fast paced and target driven is NOT more powerful than harmony seeking & supportive.
They are different types of power, equally capable of bringing others to their knees if pushed too far.
TRY THIS.
At the next meeting, ask yourself who is REALLY wearing who out?
The one who has all the obvious energy or the one who has subtle energy and quietly resists them?

I find this is particularly useful for leaders who think:
they have ‘all’ or ‘no’ power
power comes in only one ‘flavour’
