Goal Setting That Connects

This month I've been doing work with 2 separate clients on the impact of personal preferences 🔴🟡🟢🔵 on goal setting and achievement.

What’s this got to do with relationships ???

UM 🙄- EVERYTHING!

Goals in business are ‘shared direction’ …and SHARED means it’s about relationship.

Goals that are not about relationship, lead you down the path of ‘push-me-pull-you’ & ‘tug of war’ when what you really want is ‘tag team’ and ‘hive mind’.

So what can you do to put more connection into your goals?

TRY THIS...

STEP 1

Assess your own relationship with your goals. Are they captured in a language that speaks to you and fuels your success?

🔴 have clear outcomes and accountability

🟡 matter and are exciting

🟢 align with your values and how you work

🔵 are detailed and solve a defined problem

PS - If you set goals for or with others, their goals need to match their preference not yours!

STEP 2

Engage others in a way that supports your success … physically, emotionally, practically and energetically

Find people who…

🟢 care about you

🔵 can quality or sense check

🔴 will hold you accountable

🟡 can bounce ideas around with you

STEP 3

Offer to help others achieve step 1 and 2… that’s a powerful way to connect over something that matters!

SOMETHING TO PONDER...

Did you know that you leak your ‘true’ goals in your behaviour?

  • If I looked at your calendar what does it tell me about your focus?

  • If I looked at your bank account what would I think was the top priority?

SOMETHING FOR LATER...

Goal conversations are generally 1 to 1, so here is 1:44 video reminder of what to think about BEFORE you go into that conversation…
